HOW TO: STAY MOTIVATED

I think we all know how hard it is to stay motivated in life with anything, whether it be school work, working out, work itself, our personal lives, personal goals etc. etc but it is very important to keep pushing ourselves even when we really just want to give up and forget about everything.

I myself am the procrastination queen. I can never stay motivated in anything that comes my way in life. It usually fizzles out after about 2-3 weeks and it is very very frustrating. BUT here are my top 5 tips that I have picked up along the way that can help you out to grab back some of that motivation that is slowly slipping away from your fingertips.

1. Remind yourself why you're doing something; take a step back from the current situation and remind yourself why you're doing it and what positive benefits you will gain from doing it. It will help you to be more determined to finish whatever it is that you're doing and get a more better result.

2. Set yourself goals/deadlines; it is so easy to lag behind and procrastinate especially if you don't set yourself deadlines in order to get things done. Write it down in a diary or on a calander, something that you'll see daily to remind yourself. I usually find this helps a great deal and it should also help keep you focused on your goals. Also, it is best to set yourself small and easily achievable goals to start with and slowly build them up as you get through them. This helps you to gain confidence and motivation and shows yourself that you really can complete things.

3. Take regular breaks; whilst getting the work done is important, it is also very important to take breaks and take yourself away from the situation completely. If you don't take breaks it can sometimes mean the end result isn't as good or it is rushed. Also taking breaks helps you to re-think situations i.e. If you're really stuck on that essay question and you've been staring at it for over an hour and wrote about 2 lines, sometimes taking a break and going back to it can make it a lot easier to understand when you come to read it the second time round.
Also if you're working out it is important to take breaks in order for your body to recover and replenish itself. Working out too much doesn't do anything for you or give you any more benefits. So take 2/3 days off a week! It's not gonna scupper the weightloss plan or the fitness goals, trust me! Your body will thank you for it!
Go for a walk, fresh air break, out of the house or the office for half an hour, watch some TV, listen to some music, phone your friends etc. It does help.
But, taking breaks only really works if you've actually done some work to start with, it doesn't count if you're sitting with your books out infront of the TV and you keep glancing at it now and again haha sorry!

4. Eat, drink and sleep plenty; this is also very important in keeping up your motivation. Drink as much water as you can to keep yourself hydrated and your brain working for concentration, eat at the correct times of the day and eat slow realising energy foods and good brain foods! (If you would like a post on these kinds of foods then let me know). Also it is very important to rest, get a good 8 hours sleep every night to give your body time to recharge it's batteries.

5. Keep a diary/log; buy yourself a little blank book or a diary and write down everything that you have achieved in that day that is helping you to reach that goal that you want. It's good for keeping track on what you have already achieved and also what else you are still wanting to do! It is also a good way of keeping a record for you to look back on when you have completed your goal/personal achievement and gives yourself a good confidence boost because yes girl, you actually did it!!

Thanks for reading! These are just some tips that I find useful if I'm trying to stay motivated about things in my life. No way am I an expert and nor do I perceive myself to be one. Have a great one and until next time!
